5 Ways to Think Like an Entrepreneur in Your Career

5 Ways to Think Like an Entrepreneur in Your Career5 Ways to Think Like an Entrepreneur in Your CareerStarting and running a new geschftlicher umgang isnt for everyone- but regardless of your career, theres something to be said for the entrepreneurial spirit.A little entrepreneurial zeal can give you a distinct advantage in your professional life, whether or not you think youd ever strike out on our own. So how do you train your corporate mind to think more like a business owner? Try these five easy ways.1. Get PassionateEntrepreneurs tend to be immensely passionate about their work- and in the long-term, this is the key to career success and fulfillment in any field. So, if youre spending most of the day dreaming about how youd rather be doing something else, think about how you might be able to pivot your career. (Need help deciding if youre on the right track? Answer these 15 questions to know for sure.)Look for ways you can take what you have and put it to better use doing someth ing else. Could you translate your position to another industry? Transition to another department in your company where your experience could be put to use? If youre not passionate about what youre doing, dont feel stuck. Instead, think about how you can apply your skills elsewhere.2.Be Bothered by InefficiencyDo you find you or your colleagues sitting around waiting for responses in order to move forward or entrenched in certain work processes that are too slow? Entrepreneurs dont have a high tolerance for inefficiency- and because they dont have corporate red tape to cut through, they can fix these types of problems quickly. While you might not be able to do so at quite the saatkorn pace, think about the inefficiencies in your organization and consider whether there are places you could implement solutions (or at least recommend improvements). Its a golden opportunity to create long-term value and to shine in your company.3.Take on More RiskYouve likely heard the phrase, more risk, more reward. One thing that sets many entrepreneurs apart from the average professional is their appetite for risk. No, putting yourself out there isnt easy- but a business owner knows that you have to give it a shot (or, many shots), and that youll scoop up bigger rewards when those risks pay off.At work, start small by pitching new ideas or volunteering to take on a challenge or two thats outside of your comfort zone. The potential payout- gaining new skills, getting a nod of approval from the CEO, or even landing a promotion- can be huge.4.Brainstorm MoreConstant innovation is crucial to a business long-term success, so entrepreneurs have to take time to let their minds loose and brainstorm new ideas. If youre not used to getting those creative juices flowing, try setting aside some time to try out a fewbrainstorming exercises. And, remember to have fun doing it I love this quote from fellow entrepreneur Virgilia SinghEven the most complex form of innovation starts with a simple act play. More companies are instituting sketching and white boards in their offices to encourage brainstorming, also known as the act ofplayingaround with ideas.Schedule some time each week to really brainstorm about something thats been on your mind. See what you come up with.5.Dont Limit Your DreamsTo me, the most important aspect of the entrepreneurial spirit is its boundlessness. Many people are conditioned, as they go through school and into the workforce, to be realistic and practical- but, whats wrong with dreaming big? Youll have to work for it, but, believe me, its worth it.So, think like an entrepreneur, and go dream big for your careerPhoto courtesy of RUIMTEVOLK.

Managing the Unexpected at Work

Managing the Unexpected at WorkManaging the Unexpected at WorkThe saying Nothing ever goes as planned is as accurate at work as it is anywhere else. When things go wrong, it is often without warning. If you could prevent ansicht mishaps from happening in the first place, you would. While some of these problems are predictable, most are not. That is why it is essential to know how to be able to identify and deal with these situations as soon as they arise. Here are some tips for managing the unexpected at work 1. Expect Something to Go Wrong, Even If You Dont Know What Always be on the lookoutfor problems. No one wants to be a doomsayer, but the earlier you recognize a complication exists, the more quickly you can begin to take steps to fix it. Excellent problem solving skillsare crucial when dealing with these kinds of situations. Theyinclude your ability to recognize a problems existence and then identify its cause. A small mishap can grow into a big problem, and then into a cri sis pretty fast unless immediate action is taken. When a problem is ignored or unrecognized, it will, over time, become increasingly difficult, or even impossible, to resolve. Your alertness can save your company from severe damage. 2. Dont Panic Your base instinct may be to panic when something goes wrong. Your adrenaline will start to flow, which can spur you into action. However, it will also cloud your judgment. Your ability to stay calm is instrumental to your success in managing the unexpected. Panic causes us to blow small complications out of proportion. This emotional response could transform a little glitch into a massive crisis in your mind. Take a deep breath and spend a moment or two evaluating the situation and thinking about what you need to do next. Although you should react quickly, dont be hasty. That will only lead to making misinformed decisions and taking unhelpful actions. 3. Prepare Solutions in Advance While its impossible to plan for every worst-case scenario, have a strategy in mind for dealing with things that are most likely to go wrong. For example, if you are in charge of a big conference your organization is hosting, be prepared for the caterer to cancel at the brde minute or the sound system to malfunction. The day before the event, confirm with the caterer and check that the sound system is working. Prioritize by planning for more common events, not ones that are improbable. If you worry about too many things going wrong, you will be unable to do your job. Adjust your plans as unlikely events become possible. For example, while you dont need a plan to respond to a hurricane in January, you do need one in July. 4. Use Your Critical Thinking Skills In addition to excellent problem solving skills, superbcritical thinking skillsare also essential to successfully managing the unexpected at work. Take a systematic approach to solving both small complications and significant crises. Though quick action is imperative, take the t ime to come up with a few alternative solutions. Then evaluate them all before you choose the one you decide is best. If necessary, get input from your team and superiors, both when coming up with possible solutions and when selecting which one to implement. 5. Keepa List of Resources at Your Fingertips When problems arise, and you need outside help to resolve them, a list of service providers will prove invaluable. Going back to the example of the conference and being prepared for a caterer to cancel at the last minute, have a list of other companies you can call. If you have an audio equipment repair rolle on your contact list, a sound system failure wont waylay your conference. Depending on your organizations needs, include plumbers, electricians, computer experts, office equipment repair people, caterers, and temporary employment agencies on your contact list. Before hiring an outside service, make sure to have the approval of the person who controls the purse strings for yo ur organization. Customize your contact list as necessary. Add to it as you find additional providers and delete contacts that dont come through for you or that are no longer in business. Network with your colleagues, even those at other organizations, for recommendations and reviews. A quick and measured response to a critical situation will lessen the adverse effects onyour organization and its bottom line. Your boss will appreciate your efforts to respond to a potentially damaging crisis.
